Motor Press Guild, the largest automotive media association in North America, extends its congratulations to James Bell in his new role as Head of Consumer Affairs for General Motors Company and welcomes Vice President Laura Burstein as the new MPG president effective July 1.

The gain was the result of continued solid retail demand for the company's wide selection of fuel-efficient vehicles. Retail sales for GM's brands rose 16 percent for the month, compared to a year ago, and were 4 percent higher than May.

Automaker General Motors Co. announced Friday that U.S. vehicle sales for the month of June grew 10 percent over last year, boosted by strong retail demand for fuel-efficient vehicles. Retail sales for the month also increased 16 percent from last year, and advanced 4 percent from the month of May.

Falling gas prices brought truck buyers back to Ford and General Motors showrooms last month. Still, pump prices remained high enough that shoppers snapped up smaller cars as well.
