Update on repairs

Camaro Tech - 5 hours 34 min ago
Sent the car to one of the "two" body shops in town for the insurance repair. Here is an update. Added a cowl hood at no extra cost - will also get an alum radiator at minor extra cost. Should be done late next week or early the following week. The car is getting a complete re-paint described by the owner as "killer".

Uncle Tom's 387 steps to he!!, and the new me!

Uncle Tom's trail Is basically a metal staircase bolted to the side of a cliff. It leads down 500 feet into the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone river, and from the bottom you have one of the best views in the park...

Going back up was "a bit of a challenge"

So, at the ripe old age of 50, some changes are in order...
Over the last 10 years, I've moved from 168 lbs to just under 200. Gotta get back down to 170. That will be fairly easy, salads for lunch (instead of greasy beef sandwiches and cheese fries), and some old fashioned "navy excercises" every morning. 90 days should do it.

And then the hard part. I've been a 3 pack a day smoker for a lotta years. Yesterday, I made an appointment to see a Doc about some meds to help, going next Tuesday. Thinking either Zyban or chantris. Gonna see a hypnotist on my "quit day," and I've talked my wife into joining me, so that will help. My only remaining coworker smoker is also trying to quit, so we'll have a smoke free office.

The lifestyle changes involved here are mind boggling.
In the morning, I spend near an hour on the back porch, sucking down a pot of coffee, reading the paper, checking TC, and chain smoking.

That screened porch is our main social center at home during the summer... we don't ever smoke in the house. I'm not sure what to do about that. Perhaps finish the sitting room upstairs, and do my nightly forum surfing there.

At work will be easier. Now, we smoke in the shop / warehouse, and I have a spare computer here where I can work, surf TC, and pollute the air. On "the day" I will declare the warehouse "no smoking" and that will be that.

If I can make it until winter closes in, I'll be good for life.

I would like to give a big thanks to "that sweet little voice" from last week. I'm sure your Dad will show you this.

Comments, suggestions, & been there done that's are very welcome.

Zyban or Chantris?

Is there a 7 blade clutch fan for short water pump?

Camaro Tech - 6 hours 10 min ago
I want to change my stock 4 blade with spacer fan to 7 blade clutch fan based on what I've read in these forums. I have a 67' 327 with stock shroud. Will the 69 setup work with a short pump to place the fan inside the shroud or do I need a 67' 302 fan clutch and if so where would I find it?
Thanks in advance from anyone who has made this conversion.

unknown knob under dash

Camaro Tech - 6 hours 17 min ago
This may be a stupid question but I have a knob/switch located below the dash to the left of the steering column that I have no idea what it's for. I just started getting the lights, etc. working and this knob doesn't seem to do anything. Is this the hazard warning light switch? You can turn it slightly and it appears to pull out somewhat. I am hoping this will be a quick answer in lieu of trying to trace the wires back. Thanks again guys.

oil sending unit question

Camaro Tech - 6 hours 21 min ago
I just installed the console guages for my 327 67RS, the car came with them but weren't there when I bought it. My question is: where does the oil sending unit for the mechanical guage to the cluster go on the block, I can't seem to find any fitting? I see where the electrical sending unit is near the distributor and there is also some kind of sending unit on the right side of the block near the manifold. This shouldn't be that hard but I need some guidance, thanks.

Still Overheating!!!

Camaro Tech - 7 hours 31 min ago
This is my first post to this forum so hello to all.:hurray:

It started a month ago when I started to notice the classic symptom of the needle rising while sitting in traffic. I had the water pump and thermostat replaced and that seemed to fix it for a short period of time (2 weeks) and then it came back.

2 days ago i had the radiator flushed because it was redlining and didnt seem to be cooling off at all. The needle would raise at a steady pace and never cool down. After they flushed the rad it stayed below the 180 mark while i test drove it on the highway and sat with it idling. Problem solved right.

I hadnt drove it in 2 days and when I took it for a spin it redlined again but not as bad. The top rad hose seemed a little flaccid to me as if the thermo wasnt opening up enough so i just replaced it and the old one did seem stuck. It now stays between the 210 mark and the 3 quarter mark!

What can I do to get the temp to stay back down at the 180 mark?!!!

Any help would be appreciated and I thank you in advance. Sorry for the long post...

To restore or not restore!

Camaro Tech - 7 hours 51 min ago
Hi All...I was fascinated reading post from Dennis re: his cornfield VN Z28 and all the excellent advice he received. I have a 69 Daytona Yellow/Blk Vinyl top Z28 which has #'s motor, rear end, carb, and other parts. Bought from a dealer 3-4 yrs ago and they pretty much just did a paint over restoration. Has some surface rust around door bottoms, 1/4 panels etc...all in all looks like a mix between driver/show(not a trailer queen)..Should I spend the $ and get all body work done and paint, or does having orig. sheet metal even with some rust add to hsitory? Interior and mech. are great.
Thanks in advance for all....Pat

Camaro Tech - 8 hours 18 min ago
Hi all, first post and first time rebuilder of a 1980 Z28, 350(newly rebuilt and a few extras) pushing ~360 hp with basic 350 trans. Going to need new interior, some body, paint of course (not to bad for being in NE). So their are some of the details as for the questions.
How does one remove the air duct/scoop from the front fenders?? Do you really have to remove the fenders?? Next, any hints suggestion on how to replace the door pins/bushings and how in the world do you align a 100lbs door?? Any help would be great and thanks in advance

Has anyone used a Long 4-speed shifter

Camaro Tech - 8 hours 32 min ago
My Comp Plus is pretty tired. I searched on shifters and came across the Long Brand. Has anyone used one?

Alternatively, I could buy a rebuild kit off ebay for $90-ish or send it out to be rebuilt.

TIA

When I got the announcement from the Mid-Atlantic Soaring Association about their Land, Speed and Air show this Sunday, I was intrigued. M-ASA's annual open house is an opportunity for the public to see the flying club's airstrip and see classic and antique cars and airplanes.
